As a broad subfield of artificial intelligence, machine learning is concerned with the design and development of algorithms and

techniques that allow computers to "learn". At a general level, there are two types of learning: inductive, and deductive.Inductive machine learning methods extract rules and patterns out of massive data sets.

The major focus of machine learning research is to extract information from data automatically, by computational and statistical methods. Hence, machine learning is closely related to data mining and statistics but also theoretical computer science.

Machine learning has a wide spectrum of applications including natural language processing, syntactic pattern recognition, search engines, medical diagnosis, bioinformatics and cheminformatics, detecting credit card fraud, stock market analysis, classifying DNA sequences, speech and handwriting recognition, recognition in computer vision, game playing and robot locomotionادامه مطلب...

    Chinese room

The Chinese Room argument is a thought experiment and associated arguments designed by John Searle (1980 [1]) as a counterargument to claims made by supporters of what Searle called strong artificial intelligence (see also functionalism).

The argument is that a computer cannot have understanding, because human beings, when running computer programs by hand, do not acquire understanding. His arguments are taken very seriously in the field of philosophy, but are regarded as invalid by many scientists, including those outside the field of AI.ادامه مطلب...

    Turing test

The Turing test is a proposal for a test of a machine"s capability to demonstrate intelligence. Described by Professor Alan Turing in the 1950 paper "Computing machinery and intelligence," it proceeds as follows: a human judge engages in a natural language conversation with one human and one machine, each of which try to appear human; if the judge cannot reliably tell which is which, then the machine is said to pass the test. In order to keep the test setting simple and universal (to explicitly test the linguistic capability of the machine instead of its ability to render words into audio), the conversation is usually limited to a text-only channel such as a teletype machine as Turing suggested or, more recently, IRC or instant messagingادامه مطلب...

    Artificial Intelligence

No other field in computer science has higher visibility (and expectation, and disappointment) than artificial intelligence to the general population.  This course covers the basic components of artificial intelligence as we know it, namely search, optimization, logic and machine learningادامه مطلب...
